Conscious Wonder

“Conscious Wonder” is a song from JATK’s album Shut Up and Be the Light. I teamed up with long-time collaborator Shaun Clarke, along with his Graduate Advanced Cinematography students at Emerson College, and my 13-year-old niece to create this piece.

As a project for their cinematography class, I was the client and their job was to create a music video for the band while shooting on 35mm film. All the studio footage was shot on film by the students at Emerson. The field and car footage was shot digitally by my niece, my partner Aneleise Ruggles, and me at Jewell Hill in my hometown of Ashburnham, MA.

The lyrics deal with existential themes, so it felt appropriate to return to my hometown to film it with family and to work on it with aspiring student artists - a full circle creative endeavor and incredibly fun to make.
